Two Hands Clapping:
guest artists
Joy Askew
Joy is originally from England, but has lived and created great
music in New York City for many years now. She has toured with,
among others, Peter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson and Joe Jackson and
has recorded several albums of her own. Her latest, When, is available
through artshop@artist-shop.com. Someday, we will all be hearing
and enjoying (no pun intended) a lot from Joy Askew.
Jim Beard
I first met Jim when we were playing together in Bill Evans
Supergroup in the late eighties. Jim has the widest musical range
of anyone I've ever met, yet, he is always, clearly, himself. Jim
has three albums of his own titled Song Of The Sun on CTI label,
Lost At The Carnival on Lipstick label and Truly, his latest, available
on the Escapade Music label. Jim is well known for his playing with
Wayne Shorter and John McLaughlin and has produced records for many
great jazz artists like Mike Stern and Bob Berg.
Bill Champlin
I became a Bill Champlin fan in the early seventies when he
led, what was to me, a ground-breaking band The Sons Of Champlin.
He's written and sang on probably over 400 hit songs, the later
ones with the band Chicago. His organ playing has him ranked on
most peoples "A" list and he plays the heck out of the
guitar as well! He is one of the finest musicians I've ever gotten
the privilege to play with.
John Patitucci
John is known to anyone that is a jazz fan as one of the greatest
bass players anywhere/anytime. I first met him playing pop, or rock
tunes with him in some album sessions in New York and LA. Hes
on tons of great records with tons of great musicians and now has
his own fourth album out on the Concord Jazz label titled Now. To
me, his ears and musicality transcends any musical style. John is
a great musician and a great person that just happens to play bass.
Glen Phillips
I met Glen in 1992 when I was playing with Chris Whitley and
he was a member of one of my favorite bands, Toad The Wet Sprocket.
We were touring together for about five months. Glen is one of my
favorite singers - very original and above all else, real. I'm grateful
to all the guys from T. T. W. S. for letting me play with Glen that
day. I miss our hangs on the bus!
Chris Whitley
Chris is one of the greatest guitarists I've ever played with.
There is no one like him and there never will be another. In 1991,
Rolling Stone Magazine awarded Chris "Best New Album Of The
Year' for his debut album, Living With The Law. His latest album
is called Dirt Floor and is available from Messenger Records. Among
his many obvious assets, Chris has a very secure and authoritative
sense of rhythm. That's why I could play the way I did on our two
songs - I knew I'd never lose him!
