Artist Album Where to Buy or Listen
Bill Champlin Band TBD www.billchamplin.net
This one is gonna be special! Yep. Playing with Bill is one of those career highlight moments. Someday, I hope you get to hear us play live together!

Jon Pousette-Dart TBD www.pousette-dart.com
Jon’s still working on this one. You may remember Jon’s appearing with me at the Modern Drummer festival in 2000. Really great musician.

Billy Ward Trio Out the Door www.billyward.com
This is free with the Voices DVD – guitar/bass/drums playing passionate music!

B.B. King 80 (available everywhere)
I’m on “Hummingbird” (w. John Mayer), “Ain’t Nobody Home(w. Daryl Hall) and “Must Be a Better World” (w. Gloria Estefan) It won a Grammy award and is one of my career highlights - being with BB and playing with BB.

Joan Osborne Christmas Means Love Barnes and Noble, itunes, CDUniverse
This is a Christmas record that was recorded with Joan singing live with us and it was a wonderful experience! The rhythm section and lead vocals were done with the entire record after the first day. Second day = vocal overdubs. I wish every drummer could have the experience of playing with Joan Osborne, she is such a great singer! With Tracy Wormworth (besides Joan, Tracy plays with B-52s and has played with Sting and Wayne Shorter) and well known producer John Leventhal on guitar and the fabulous Gary Schreiner on keyboards and harmonica. This record is more naked than most due to lack of budget but the players are all so good! The mix could be better, but nonetheless I highly recommend it – especially during the Holidays!

Ben Swift Pull itunes
I’m on “Down With You”, “Pull” and “Warm Hands And Bones” I used my little teensy green sparkle kit with a a 16” bass drum on these sessions.

Bruce Gaitsch Nightingale itunes
I’m on “Magic Man” / “Prarie Blue” / “Nightingale” and “Dependence”. Bruce Gaitsch is a true pleasure to play with.. and to know as well! I wish every drummer could experience his time feel on rhythm guitar – it’s unreal!

Jon Albrink Private Moon itunes
This record is the result of my 2nd production experience with Jon. This is another moody record that I hopefully didn’t ruin with my producing and engineering experimentation. I’m on drums, Jon plays guitar and bass and sings and Jim Beard is on keyboards.

Audrey Martell Life Lines itunes
I’m on “Heaven and Hell” (a clinic number sometimes) “Caution” and “Fractured”. This is done at my studio - another session done by mail! Audrey is a stupid-fantastic singer and person.

Jon Pousette-Dart Heart And Soul itunes
“Can’t Keep A Good Man Down” / In The Pocket” / “A Way To Be” / “Creole Wind” and “My SUV”. I did all of these at my studio. It actually is kind of rare that Jon and I play together. Too bad, because he is a blast to play with!

Eliza Koreanne Favorite itunes
I did all my tracks in one day with Eliza and band – mostly guys from Ina May Wool and Suzzane Vega’s bands. If you want to hear me playing lots of songs live in one day – this is worth checking.

Cy Curnin (The Fixx) Mayfly Amazon or cduniverse.com
This is a project where Cy was working with Bruce Gaitsch and this is where I came in. I did my tracks at my studio. Cy is awesome/unusual – great songs. This is one of the more creative (and FAST!) projects where I've done the drum tracks at my studio, DrumPike. Cy Curnin and Bruce Gaitsch are the real deal!

Sons Of Champlin Hip Li’l Dreams www.sonsofchamplin.com
I’m on one track, “74”, which was another dream come true because I always loved the Sons when I was younger. I did this at Bill’s home studio “74” has some tricky meter stuff going on in the Chorus… very Sons-like!

Ina May Wool Crack It Open itunes
I’m on “Frida”(another clinic song sometimes) Ina May is really underrated.

Eric Nicolas The WaterWheel itunes
This one is cool - kind of non-genre/every genre stuff. Brazilian influence on top of everything else andplenty of stellar players. For you audio geeks, (like me), this one was recorded live to 2” tape, just like the old days!

Clayton Bruce Ost This Day And Age www.cdbaby.com/cd/cbost
This is another production of mine – Bruce is running a boat rental service in the Caribbean these days, which reflects a total life/career change for him. Hopefully my work as producer didn’t contribute to his “career make-over”!

Jon Albrink Shimmer and Thrum itunes
This is the 1st record I ever produced and solely engineered at my own teeny studio from soup to nuts. People that have heard Jon’s records really like them! John Patitucci is on bass on half a dozen songs or so - he is awesome!

Billy Ward Two Hands Clapping www.billyward.com
Well. you know...I love this album. This was done live with select guests, who were each a friend of mine. I wanted to make something more exposed, with both me and the guest artist stretching out and taking risks. There were no repairs or overdubs on this record.

Janey Clewer When Stars Collide itunes
I’m on “God Save the Children” and “Someone Else’s Life”. Some drummers might not be too interested in Janey’s music, but it is GOOD music so I appreciate being a part of it. This gal is another great singer and I’m a sucker for that.

Amy Sky Burnt By The Sun itunes
This session was phoned into my studio in NYC. I played Taos drums on “Burnt By the Sun”. I also played normal drums on Bitter End” and “First Light”. Those are the only three songs that I did for this record.

Carly Simon Film Noir available everywhere
This record was done live with the entire orchestra. Carly is truly a great singer. I remember the cue mix was terrible and wonder if it was some kind of sabotage from a possibly jealous or psycho engineer. Carly was very cool and sang live with us and sounded just like… Carly!

Buce Gaitsch Aphasia itunes
Bruce plays in the Bill Champlin band. He is one of best of the best! Period . Lots of live recording here. More of Jim Beard, John Patitucci with a dash of Bill Champlin.

George Russell and Living Time Orchestra It’s About Time Don’t know– ???
The label is Label Bleu. This is another one of those records where the cue mix was terrible, but the band was great - so we managed. Sadly, this is the only recording from my fifteen years with George Russell and it’s a very hard to find French release. George is kind of a “Frank Zappa” of jazz. It’s not a stretch at all to say that his harmonic theories led to Miles Davis and Gil Evans. He received the MacArthur Foundation Genius Award – which consists of accepting a WHOLE LOT of money. That’s gotta be great in arguments, like “Oh yeah? Let’s see YOUR genius award!’

Janey Clewer Call Me Romantic itunes
I played on “Niina” and “Only Time Will Tell” More really good music recorded at her home studio in Nashville.

Jim Beard Truly hard to find...
Jim is, of course, on my duets record (Two Hands Clapping) I did one song for this record “In All Her Finery” at my studio. It’s a very orchestral piece and was tons of fun to play! I felt like a classical musician on this one – using those little bells within a strange drumkit.

Jim Beard Lost At The Carnival again – VERY hard to find
This record is particularly great IMO. The label is Lipstick. Again, I am on one song, (the title track) titled “Lost At The Carnival”. The drumming style on this song is sort of Baby Dodds meets Zigaboo Modeliste! :D If you ever can find this record - buy it! Really great music.

Original motion picture soundtrack That Thing You Do! available everywhere!
In addition to teaching leading actor Tom Everett Scott the drums (in three weeks), I played on all the jazzy cues and several of the other band’s songs from the State Fair shows. This was a fun experience and very authentic music!

King Of Hearts Joy Will Come no idea where to get this one!
More LA-style snazzy pop music chops kind of stuff. It’s really fun to play with people who are good! Lots of major players on this - I think I’m on most of the songs if not all. Recorded them very quickly...

Amy Sky Cool Rain itunes
I’m playing on “Everything” and “Don’t Leave Me Alone” God, she is great!

Gary Chang Motion Picture Soundtrack The Island Of Dr.Moreau www.amazon.com
This is a Motion Picture Soundtrack. Composer Gary Chang once again scaring the heck outta me with his complicated and incredibly musical scores. You could rent the movie too, but you might not want to: they kind of let Val Kilmer do whatever he wanted – so he did…badly.

George Hawkins Jr. Every Dog Has Its Day www.fleetwoodmac.com
George is in the Bill Champlin band, along with guitarist and songwriter Bruce Gaitsch. George is a stupid great bassist and singer who sings better than 99% of all so-called lead singers. I couldn’t find an outlet to buy this record, so good luck in finding it. - I’m on a few tracks along with some programming by Jeff Porcaro and Jonathan Moffett.

Dar Williams Mortal City itunes
I’m on a couple a tracks on this record. I never felt comfortable during these sessions. Maybe this has happened to you?... it’s like, the headphones mix was weird.. Everything felt kind of off. I’m not sure why that was - but I guess it happens, though it’s not happened again since that date. I’m secretly hoping to get another call to play with her someday to make up for it.

Bruce Gaitsch A Lyre In A Windstorm itunes
I’m on “That’s When I Fell” / “On The Way”/ “Heartbeat” / “Everyday Thing” (and Everyday Thing is the Texas shuffle I demonstrate in clinics) / “Two Kinds Of Love”

Bill Champlin ...And He Started To Sing sorry, no idea how to find…
I have no idea how to find this. I did six tracks in five hours at Bill’s home studio. Great songs... the mix could be better (drums aren’t loud enough!) but its really good stuff. This record is impossible to find - good luck with that! I frequently start my clinics with a remixed song from this record - with the Tower of horn section.

Leni Stern Words Amazon, itunes
Like Jim Beard’s albums that were on Lipstick, it’s difficult to figure out where to get them. I love Leni. She was JUST starting to sing as she made this record. I’m on a few songs. I think the incredibly talented Joy Askew produced this record (Joy is on my duets record –two Hands Clapping). Nice pockets on the three songs that I play – they are titled “Ndola Longue”, “If We Can’t Be Lovers” and “The Garden”.

Bill Evans Push cduniverse.com
I made a record with Bill Evans that never came out (Bill Evans Supergroup) and this one isn’t even a teensy sample of what craziness we were getting into! I appear on two songs here - “Push” and “U R What U Hear” More Lipstick difficulty in finding it, but you can get far better Bill Evans than this one.

Blue By Nature Blues is In My Way www.bluebynature.com/store.htm
This band was led my one time Aerosmith sideman, Rick Dufay. We did local gigs in LA bars while I lived out there and this singer really brings it! We did this entire record in one day at a very average studio, but you can feel the vibe. That’s my yellow 13”(collector’s series) snare drum throughout this record.

Claudia Scott Collection www.claudiascott.com/music.html
This is a Norwegian artist if I remember correctly. I’m on one really cool song - with a 12/8 meter that many find difficult. It is titled “Fairytale”. Fairytale originally appeared on a record titled “Flowers and Thorns”. I wasn’t endorsing any drums at the time of this recording and I played this track on my old Rogers Holiday drum kit. 20 /16 / 12 and 14” snare.

Original motion picture soundtrack Under Siege everywhere
Yeah.. Ol’ what’s his name...Steven Seagal. This is another Gary Chang soundtrack and a pretty good movie for its genre! The main title theme is really cool – very drummy… There are lots of interesting cues going on while they are fighting.

The Knack Retrospective cduniverse.com
This compilation record came out after The Knack (at least my version of it) was done. It’s got all the great songs from their historical ride, plus a few with me from “Serious Fun”.

The Knack Serious Fun cduniverse.com
“You’re gonna be a millionaire by Christmas”. These were the words spoken sincerely to me by my lawyer after he heard this record in the early nineties. What we didn’t know was that, just as the first song was a top ten hit, the label was going to take a dive – effectively ending any possible success for this album. Don Was produced this and it was a joy working with him. The Knack fellas are really good – Doug and Berton in particular are amazing singers/musicians.

Robbie Robertson Storyville Amazon and itunes
Gary Chang recommended me to Robbie. This was a thrill for me as we worked on these songs together for about six months in pre-production. Robbie LOVES his drummers (– no doubt spoiled by Levon Helm) so he had everybody play on this. It’s a minor miracle that I am on one track, “Hold Back The Dawn”. This is a great record, with a ton of diverse wonderful drumming performances. You MUST get this record!

Terri Nunn Moment Of Truth ebay and cduniverse.com
This was recorded at the little purple guy’s studio called Paisley Park Studios in Minneapolis. I was there for three weeks. This recording experience was an example of big label excess – we sat around a lot and it might be the most money I ever made doing a record. Terri Nunn is another ridiculously talented singer (from the band, Berlin. She sang “Take My Breath Away”… yeah. NOW you know her) If you can see her live – DO IT. She is GREAT. Otherwise, this record is worth avoiding.

Marc Jordan Cow check with Amazon or Ebay
Marc is married to Amy Sky (see two records with her above). He is a HUGE talent and what I call a “character singer”. I find it moving to hear him sing – though there is no marvel at the technique. He is simply great and everything that music should mean. This record has a lot of snazzy drumming on it - which was common during this time (’88-89), where chops were important. So this is quite Peter Gabriel-ish… lots of keyboards and drum fills. Lots of tracks. Like the Knack Record, Serious Fun, COW is dated, but still good. BTW, COW stands for “conserve our world”.
